Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. She became chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was host and panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. She was a member of an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including arms control the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. She also was frequently with President Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
